Description

See why San Sebastian is a ‘Pueblo Magico’

Begin your adventure by making your way to the meeting points at either the Puerto Vallarta main marina or the Vallarta Adventures office in Nuevo Vallarta, where you’ll take comfortable transportation to San Sebastian, a former mining town nestled high in the Sierra Madre Mountains. With the help of a friendly bilingual guide, you’ll visit San Sebastian’s baroque cathedral, which was constructed in 1608. A colorful building with vaulted ceiling frescoes, the cathedral leads many of the small town’s annual fiestas.

Continue strolling through the town to see its white adobe homes and haciendas, and greet the locals who will love to welcome you to their village. They are also proud farmers who grow and cultivate coffee beans and agave into the area’s best coffee and tequila, which you may purchase and sample.

Learn about the incredible history of San Sebastian

As you walk about the town, your knowledgeable guide will tell you more about San Sebastian’s history. Following the Mexican Revolution, the town’s nearly 20,000 residents dropped to today’s population of about 600. Although it might sound like a ghost town, this place offers you the feeling of traveling back in time as you see colonial buildings, cobblestoned plazas and tiny adobe-lined streets that have hardly been touched in the last 400 years.

Your San Sebastian land tour also includes breakfast, lunch and bottled water, which you’ll need to refuel from all the walking. When you’re finished with your magical encounter with this mountain town, board your vehicle and head back to the Puerto Vallarta area with a full day of history and culture in your memory banks.
